Thermal exhaust air purification in chemical pilot processes

The company Birk supplies a thermal afterburner / thermal exhaust gas purification as general contractor to a globally operating specialist in the chemical industry.

The post-combustion/flue gas cleaning system was designed for a minimum raw gas volume flow of only 2 mn³/h - specially adapted to the included calorific value (hydrocarbon compounds) according to the material data of the raw gas components - from the flue gases of upstream process and production plants. The plant has an ingenious arrangement of the numerous plant components in order to meet the limited space conditions in the customer's complex on-site platform system at the installation site outdoors.

In order to meet the high customer requirements for operational safety and plant availability, numerous plant components are designed according to the high standards of the SIL classification, which guarantees a high level of protection for the employees as well as a high level of process stability.

The plant has a corrosion-resistant design of the reaction chamber housing and full-surface external insulation in the entire area of the combustion chamber jacket to ensure a long service life even with critical exhaust air components. The external insulation is designed as a completely closed, smooth and coloured sheet metal and, in addition to its protective function, gives the system an elegant appearance. In addition, the entire system has been designed for outdoor installation, including unprotected installation.

In order to meet the equally high noise emission reduction requirements, the afterburning system is equipped with a comprehensive noise reduction package. The entire scope of supply also included parts of the raw gas supply/removal into the combustion chamber, the exhaust air conveyance, as well as parts of the clean gas discharge with noise reduction. The plant is designed as a compact unit, whereby it is delivered ready for operation, i.e. electrically and mechanically pre-installed. The entire control, regulation and monitoring functions of the plant are performed by a Siemens S7 control, which is equipped with a user-friendly visualization with touch function.
